Week One Task
Based upon the novel that you are reading in class, design a new front
cover. Try to show what the book is about and make people want to read it!
You can draw your cover or use ICT.
Week Two Task
Choose a place from the novel- it could be someone’s house, a school, a shop
or any place that is in the story. Write a description of the place, use
details from the novel but also your imagination. Remember to use the
descriptive skills you have learnt! Illustrate if you wish.
Week Three Task
Choose two characters from your novel. Imagine them having a conversation
about something important that happens in the story and write a script of
this conversation.
Week Four Task
Choose a chapter from the novel that you have particularly enjoyed and write
a summary of what happens and also try to explain why you enjoyed it- was it
exciting, sad, funny etc?
Week Five Task
Find out about another book by the same author. You could use the library or
internet. If you can, read an extract of the book or the blurb on the back.
Explain what is it about? Does it sound similar to the novel you’ve been
reading in class or very different? Would you want to read it? If not, why?
Week Six Task
Imagine a different ending to the story- what could have happened
differently? Try and write an alternative ending! Depending on how much you
want to change you could write a summary of what happens or write the final
chapter or pages. Discuss with your teacher.
Week Seven Task
Come up with ten quiz questions, (and the answers!), about the novel you
have been reading. Try to make them challenging and try them out your
questions on your classmates!
